The Adewales need reprieve from the effects of having multiple children with sickle cell anaemia…
Many families have their hands full rearing just one sickle cell warrior. The financial drain apart, the world knows not the psycho-physical toll of the sickle cell journey on caregivers. Of clergyman Olukayode Adewale’s seven children with his wife Beatrice, five were confirmed SS.
One teenager passed away undiagnosed but with symptoms strongly suggestive of SCD.
Anyway, no sooner he arrived from Ikoyi, Lagos prison (‘Correctional Centre’) last December 23, than he was once again starkly confronted with the troubles time in confinement had shielded him from. It was his youngest son, Samuel.
‘My wife said Samuel’s leg will be amputated if we couldn’t come up with N300k within a day or two.’ The 14 year old’s leg had been ravaged by SCD leg ulcers to the point that his doctors were frustrated. Often times there was no money to buy basic medications to treat the ulcers.
The CAC pastor’s sojourn in one of Nigeria’s notorious prisons was the result of a tortuous convolution of events involving one of Nigeria’s oldest banks.
The family had no savings whatsoever, living hand to mouth and on the goodwill of weary friends and relations and others who somehow learnt of the couple’s saga of poverty, frustration and angst.
Adewale looked up in the sky and vented words he immediately regretted –
‘How I wish I was back in jail!’

Mr. Adewale’s family needs help. Watch this 2012 video and help as the spirit leads. No family, no human being needs be harassed by life’s vicissitudes as the Adewales have been. Life need not be a vale of tears because of SCD.
Remember, remember this: when you help others, ultimately, you help yourself.
