Canadian-Nigerian Lanre Tunji-Ajayi Elected Interim President …

Amsterdam, Netherlands, January 2020,
An inaugural Face-to-Face meeting of the Global SCD Alliance (#globalSCD) took place in Amsterdam with delegates attending from as far afield as Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the United States.
Sickle Cell Disorder is the world’s best-known genetic health condition with no racial or geographical boundaries.

The organization appointed Canadian-Nigerian Lanre Tunji-Ajayi interim President/CEO. Honoured by the Canadian Senate in 2018 for her work on SCD, Mrs. Tunji-Ajayi founded the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario (SCAGO) and was instrumental in the establishment of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Canada (SCDAC). She was also named among 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women in 2019.

Dr. Isaac Odame, CEO, Global Sickle Cell Disease Network, Zakareya Alkadeim, President, Bahraini Sickle Cell Association, Agnes Nsofwa, co-founder/CEO, Australia Sickle Cell Association and other prominent sickle cell advocates graced the F2F in Amsterdam.
The organization is expected to bring under its umbrella SCD patient and advocacy organizations from around the world. recruitment of volunteers is ongoing.
